I’m a Ph.D student within the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Manchester, UK.
My research focuses on the development of both hardware and software for Passive Millimetre-Wave Imagers (Imaging devices that operate in the millimetre part of the electromagnetic spectrum and detect the natural radiation emitted or reflected by materials). By utilising techniques such as Aperture Synthesis (combining the signals from multiple distributed antennas as though they all formed part of a single, much larger antenna) and Digital Signal Processing (the digital processing of discrete signals), the next generation of these imagers can be suited for a much wider variety of applications, such as:
- Security scanners,
- All-weather flight aids,
- Search and Rescue equipment,
- Atmospheric sensing from both ground and space platforms.
